Model Cars

Alex has been interested in electric radio control cars since a very early age and has always shown great skill in driving them. He started out with models that came ready to run out of the box, but since the age of 12 he has been building kit cars himself. These kits require varying degrees of mechanical knowledge, which as a result of building them, along with other things, Alex has been able to gain over the years. Some kits even require you to assemble the gearbox and differential, along with other things such as suspension parts.

Alex would constantly fine-tune the cars or modify them in some way, whether it be by changing the standard motor for a faster one, swapping the suspension springs, modifying the suspension geometry for better articulation or pinching his Dad’s video cam to make on board videos.

Alex started racing 1/10th scale touring cars at the age of 14 at a local indoor club. Despite the reliability of the car not always being as good as we’d have liked, Alex always had strong results in his races, sometimes beating much more expensive models.

Recently, Alex was invited to race a 1/8th scale nitro powered buggy at a local track. Alex had never driven one of these buggies, nor on an off-road track, nor with the different type of controller he was supplied with, and only had a 10 minute practice session to acquaint himself with all of these things before the races began. Despite this, in his first final he finished 3rd, automatically boosting him up to the next final. In that one, he was leading and was set to win, but unfortunately the car suffered a mechanical problem a few laps before the end.
